I received my Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from SUNY Plattsburgh.
I love my alma mater, and received many opportunities while there.
My mentor, Professor of Printmaking Diane Fine, challenged me to
reach beyond what I perceived as my artistic and personal potential.
I learned the complex and beautiful art of etching, lithography, and monotype. At that time my work was very realistic. Then, in my
junior year, I attended Chester College in England. With guidance
and inspiration from my painting professor, John Renshaw, I gave
myself the freedom to create more abstract imagery in painting.
For me, this allowed a direct emotional infusion in creating my art.
After graduation, I sought to travel. I found myself in Ireland on more
than one occasion. These personal travels led to my discovery of the Burren College of Art in Ballyvaughan, Ireland. I enrolled in a summer graduate program focused on site specific art. In the tradition of such artists as Andy Goldsworthy and Richard Long, I worked directly with the land as a new mode of media and expression. This pushed the parameters further to include a mixed media format in my work. From carefully rendered etchings and lithographs, then to large flowing paintings, to earth and ocean derived art, my experiences have given my work evolution. You will see this in my artwork here. Representative, evocative, textural. Style and method may change, but my personal quest to express beauty and longing remains. Whether I am collecting natural ephemera or capturing shadows, I seek to express the emotion that comes with these moments.
